Tsunami 2004

UNICEF Iceland was one of five aid organizations in Iceland who took part in a major fundraising TV show in the beginning of 2005 for the victims of the tsunami that hit countries in the Indian Ocean in the end of 2004. The Icelandic population gave 110 million ISK for emergency relief programmes, which was devided between the five organizations. UNICEF Iceland got 16,5 million ISK, which was sent directly to UNICEF emergency programmes in the affected region.

Earthquake in Pakistan 2005

UNICEF Iceland sent out 2,5 million ISK to UNICEF emergency programmes after the earthquake in Pakistan in October.

Cyclone in Mjanmar 2008

UNICEF Iceland fundraised for the victims of the Cyclone Nargis in Mjanmar that shook the poor country in the beginning of May. UNICEF Iceland sent 2,5 million ISK to UNICEF´s emergency relief programmes.

Conflict in Gaza 2008-9

In the end of December 2008 the Israeli army invaded Gaza. Even though faced with very difficult circumstances UNICEF provided aid assistance to vulnerable children living in Gaza. UNICEF Iceland raised over 1,5 million ISK for emergency relief.

Earthquake in Haiti 2010

A massive earthquake hit Haiti on January 12th causing devastation to millions of people and killing over 220 thousand people. UNICEF estimates that 1,5 million children saw their lives dramatically disrupted due to the earthquake. UNICEF Iceland raised almost 6 million ISK for those haitian children.
