Projects in Iceland
Global Parents
Global Parents are monthly donors to UNICEF programmes all over the world. They are the single largest contributor to UNICEF Iceland and the heart of the Committee's work.
Other fundraising activities
Other fundraising activities include the continuing sale of UNICEF Christmas cards and gifts and UNICEF-movement which encourages children to raise awareness and funds for UNICEF through a school moveathon and fundraising events. In addition, the National Committee’s gift certificates, in-memoriam and legacy programs are ongoing and well received.
Advocacy and Education for Development
In 2007, the National Committee published the educational materials Everybody has Rights (Allir eiga rétt) in cooperation with the National Centre for Educational Materials (Námsgagnastofnun). UNICEF in Iceland has also distributed a leaflet called Every Child has Rights to all 11 year olds in the country since 2005. This is also done in collaboration with the National Centre for Education Materials.
The National Committee released a publication called The Convention on the Rights of the Child: The Convention with Reference to Icelandic Legislation which was launched at a seminar on the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the event of its 18th birthday. The publication has been sold to institutions, schools and other entities that are concerned for the rights of the child. It is also used in some legal courses in universities.
The National Committee’s Youth Council organised a benefit concert in August and oversaw the design and marketing of the ‘best t-shirts in the world’ which were sold in Icelandic stores for UNICEF. T-shirts with new designs are made every year.
